End of signature legalization and certified copies
As part of the implementation of Law No. 55.19 on simplifying administrative procedures and formalities, the Moroccan administration abolished the requirement for signature legalization and certified true copies in a large number of procedures that previously required them.
What did this formality involve before?
Before this law, citizens had to travel to the local municipal office to have their signature legalized on an administrative request, or to have a copy of a document (such as an ID card or degree) certified as a true copy of the original, before submitting it to another authority.
What has changed?
- Signatures on most administrative forms no longer require prior legalization
- The relevant authorities are now responsible for verifying the validity of the copies submitted to them themselves
- An exception remains for certain documents of a special nature (documents intended for abroad requiring legalization or Apostille)
What about documents intended for abroad?
This simplification mainly concerns internal procedures within Morocco. Documents intended for foreign authorities or consulates remain subject to their own requirements (sworn translation, Apostille, diplomatic legalization) — an area in which our agency in Tangier remains specialized to assist you.
