Sworn translation vs. standard translation: what's the difference?
Clients often ask us: "Is a standard translation enough, or do I really need a sworn one?" This article clarifies the difference between the two.
Standard translation
Has no official status and no administration is required to accept it. Suitable for personal or informal use.
Official sworn translation
Carried out by a translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice, bearing their stamp, signature and date. It is a legally binding document recognized by administrations, courts and embassies.
When do you need one?
- Visa applications
- Immigration and residency files
- Marriage and divorce certificates
- Diplomas and academic transcripts
- Any document intended for a court or official administration
